A bell tower of Cathedral built by the Republic of Pisa during the 12th century in a period of military sucess and prosperity. Due to mere 3 metre foundation, set in weak and unstable subsoil, the tower leaned and provided construction challenges during that period.

From 1964 to 1990, stabilisation studies were done to investigate how to prevent the tower from toppling while maintaining its tilt. In May 2008, engineers succeed in stopping the tower from moving for the first time in history.

Constructed during the 15th centuryA pagoda constructed in the 15th century during the Ming Dynasty, but was mostly destroyed in the 19th century during the course of the Taiping Rebellion. Since 2010, the reconstruction of the tower and temple grounds went underway and targeted to complete the first phase in 2014.
